Code Black Guidance

As a Code Black scenario involves the most complex rescue scenario expected along this expedition, there will be special procedures and communication restrictions activated in an effort to save the pilot at risk.

If there is a Code Black called for in the #dw2-fleet-mechanics Discord Channel, all non-essential radio traffic is to go to silent. ANY NON-ESSENTIAL COMMUNICATION WILL RISK THE LIFE OF THE PILOT.

Code Black operations will be on a case-by-case basis to suit the circumstances the client finds themselves in. Dispatch may request assistance in the Fleet Mechanics channel for things like Eddb station look-up etc, however, this information should be relayed in the Fleet Mechanics channel, not the #Repair-Requests channel.

The first step of any Code Black operation is to determine the location of the client and log them off immediately. Once done the game-plan for the operation can be created.

The goal is to get the client a few synthesis materials to stay alive for the immediate future, the next step is to stockpile those materials for the trip to the nearest station.

The API or journal may be used to determine synthesis material stock and any other relevant information such as O2 remaining.

Eddb.io may be used to find the closest station.

Once the location is known mechanics should search the current system and local systems for asteroid rings around planets/stars.

The dispatcher will gather the information provided and determine the best local mining area. Client should be reminded not to log in until instructed.

When the following is known the rescue/operation can continue: -Client location -Client synthesis levels -Client O2 levels -Nearest station

Dispatch will request jumps specifically calling for Mining/Mechanics referencing Code Black.

Mechanics can be assigned different roles for the code black operation. In general Seals with mining lasers should call jumps to client. Otherwise seals can volunteer to source a mining site for use or can act as a escort for the client while they are reaching the station.

Dispatcher will assign them (up to 10) and inform them of the mining area. If there are insufficient Mechanics with mining equipment they will request aid from the Mining and/or Fuel Rats fleets to top the numbers up.

The first mechanic will report their arrival and will be designated as Lead Mechanic for this operation. That mechanic will be responsible for friending all other mechanics en-route and winging/beaconing them into the instance. When each mechanic drops into the instance they will leave the wing to allow the next to be added, this will continue until all mechanics are in one instance. (To preserve instance integrity it’s advised that 2 wings of 4 players are setup with a final wing of the remaining mechanic and the lead mechanic).

Whilst mechanics are positioning the Dispatcher will request the client add the lead mechanic to their friends list using the Main Menu only and not logging in.

When all Mechanics are in the instance (10 Mechs maximum) the mechanics will double check the availability of the synthesis materials and each find an asteroid.

Dispatcher will ensure client is familiar with wings, beacons and synthesis. Knowing the steps to engage these systems will be the difference between them surviving and not. If they have synthesis materials a lot of the pressure is removed. If not then the rush is on.

Once confirmed that all the pieces are in place and the lead mechanics wing beacon is on the dispatcher will explain the plan to the client and confirm they understand. Client should be advised to approach the asteroid belt/ring at a 90 degree angle to maximise the odds of navlocking successfully.

When ready dispatch will request the client to login to Fleetcomm and start a timer on their phone/PC. If the mining location is in another system they should plot the route and start the hyperspace first. If mining location is in the same system they should start the supercruise jump first. Lead mechanic will send a wing request, all mechanics will start mining operations at this time ensuring nobody is collecting anything. Client will accept wing request and enable navlock whilst flying towards the beacon.

When they arrive some materials should have already spawned. They are to scoop as fast as possible which may be difficult without a HUD. If they have collector limpets they should use them and rapidly “ignore” the other materials. Lead mechanic should report when client arrives.

When gathering starts, the client will start synthesis as soon as possible if on D grade life support. If at A grade advice is to use synth when hitting 2 minutes mark. Dispatch should advise based on the O2 left that was reported and their timer they set.

This bit above is important as clients will be so concerned with scooping they may forget to synthesise.

Once the immediate rush is over and the client is stable scooping mats the next bit is long haul. Mechanics may be interchanged. Logistics may be called to re-supply limpets, miners may help. When full on synth materials an escort to the nearest station can be discussed on a volunteer basis as distances might be high. Advised 3 Mechanics maximum on an escort, minimum 1.

Even basic D grade life support has 7.5 minutes oxygen and with 150 refills that’s 18 hours flight time. At client’s discretion the escort can be waived.

EDDB Station Location Guidance

Open your favorite browser and navigate to the web address eddb.io

Select Stations Option from the home page.

On the following page, be sure to select a station that has the facilities to perform repair work.

Exclude Planetary Bases as landing on a planet with no HUD would add unnecessary challenges to the mission.

Ensure the Landing Pad has the capacity to land the client’s ship.

Then enter your Reference System (Code Black Client’s current system)

Click the “Find Stations” Button and use the list provided below and communicate results to Dispatcher

Material Journal Log Guidance

Direct the client to open a web browser and navigate to https://journal.fuelrats.com/  Direct the client to Browse to their local Journal Log Directory File, or Login to their Frontier Account to pull the current amount of O2 time remaining.  Have the Client return available Oxygen time back to Dispatch
